Scott's firefighter father Stan died fighting a hotel fire when he was young, a loss that continues to affect him; he also deals with numerous medical problems, including Crohn's disease and ADHD, and smokes marijuana constantly. He is unemployed and spends his days hanging out with his friends, including Kelsey, who he is sleeping with. Kelsey wants the relationship to be more serious, but Scott fears commitment and worries he is not good enough for her. Claire, who is leaving for college, expresses concern that Scott's neuroses will grow out of control without her there. Scott dreams of being a tattoo artist and practices regularly on his friends, although his work is extremely inconsistent. One day, while hanging out with his friends on the beach, he is approached by a 9 year old boy, Harold. He asks Scott to give him a tattoo, but runs off after Scott draws a single line. Later, the boy's father Ray shows up at Scott's house. He is initially furious, but is attracted to Margie and eventually asks her on a date. Margie, who has not dated since Stan's death, agrees. As things becomes more serious, Margie reveals their relationship to Scott, who is disturbed that Ray, like Stan, is a firefighter. While visiting Claire, Scott reveals he plans to break up Margie and Ray, claiming that the relationship is unhealthy. He gets a job as a busboy and begins walking Harold and his sister Kelly to school each day, and grows close with them. Meanwhile, Scott's friends plan to rob a pharmacy for oxycodone pills to sell. Scott is uncomfortable with the plan but agrees to be the lookout. The robbery goes awry when they are confronted by the pharmacist and his wife. The Hollywood Reporter reported the following details late Tuesday afternoon: Judd Apatow is returning to the world of feature filmmaking. Apatow, who hasn’t directed a studio or narrative feature since 2015’s Amy Schumer hit Trainwreck, is teaming with Pete Davidson for an untitled comedy. … Sources say the project sees Apatow doing for Davidson what he did for Schumer with Trainwreck, giving a platform for a rising comedian to play a version of themselves on a stage built with material from their own lives. I know plenty of people will want to trash this movie before we even see it, but I actually do find Apatow and Davidson to both be very entertaining. Let’s not forget that Apatow is the genius behind “Knocked Up” and “The 40-Year Old Virgin. ” The man knows comedy. Universal Pictures has given a prime summer release date of June 19, 2020, to Pete Davidson ’s untitled semi-autobiographical comedy from director Judd Apatow. The studio made the announcement Friday, three days after unveiling the project. The Universal Pictures film is written by Apatow, Davidson, and Dave Sirus. Davidson, who grew up in Staten Island, lost his firefighter father in the Sept. 11 attacks, started performing stand-up comedy at the age of 16, and joined the cast of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” in 2014 at age 20. Davidson’s coming-of-age film “Big Time Adolescence” premiered Monday at the Sundance Film Festival. Apatow will produce the pic for his Apatow Productions alongside Barry Mendel. They share producing credits on “The Big Sick, ” “Bridesmaids, ” “This Is 40, ” “Trainwreck, ” and “Funny People. ” Production will be starting this summer in New York City. The Davidson-Apatow movie is the second to land on the June 19, 2020, date. It joins an untitled Pixar movie. Universal Pictures also will release DreamWorks Pictures’ haunted-house thriller “The Turning” on Jan. 24, 2020. Based on the Henry James novella, the film is set in Maine and directed by Floria Sigismondi and stars Mackenzie Davis, Finn Wolfhard, Brooklynn Prince, and Joely Richardson. Pete Davidson to Star in Judd Apatow-Directed Comedy | Complex Jan 30, 2019 Image via Getty/Daniel Boczarski Pete Davidson and Judd Apatow are joining forces on a comedy for Universal Pictures. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the untitled project Tuesday, fresh of the heels of Davidson's Big Time Adolescence debut at Sundance. The Saturday Night Live comedian will star in the Apatow directed comedy, which has been described as a semi-autobiographical story of Davidson’s life in Staten Island. Universal has yet to provide a synopsis, but it's safe to assume the film will address Davidson's struggles with mental health as well as losing his firefighter father in the Sept. 11 attacks—topics Davidson has been fairly open about. "I learned what death was [... ] To learn how anything can just be taken away from you early gave me this sense of 'F**k it. Whatever, dude, '" he said in a 2018 Variety interview, explaining how his father's death pushed him into comedy. "I'm able to do stand-up and f**k around because hopefully the worst thing that has ever happened to me happened. " Davidson and Apatow co-wrote the film alongside former SNL writer Dave Sirus. Apatow Productions will produce alongside Barry Mendel, with Universal VP of Production Erik Baiers overseeing the project for the studio.
